Trailblazer Men drop tough 1-0 decision to Mass. Maritime

Buzzards Bay, MA- The MCLA Men's Soccer team dropped their fourth straight game, falling 1-0 to MASCAC rival Mass. Maritime Saturday afternoon.  With the loss, the Trailblazers are now 3-6-1, 0-2-1 in the MASCAC.

MMA's Senior Dennis Doherty's (West Falmouth, Mass.) unassisted goal with 7:48 remaining held up as the game-winner as Maritime picked up their first win of the season.

Doherty's shot from 10 yards out in the closing minutes of play resulted in his first goal of the season for the host Buccaneers (1-7, 1-2 MASCAC), and sophomore Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) made that stand up in net by making eight saves to record the shutout victory, with three of those stops coming in the final four minutes of the contest.

Junior Dillon Wager (Amsterdam, N.Y.) also made eight saves in the setback for the visiting Trailblazers (1-7, 1-2 MASCAC) as Massachusetts Maritime outshot MCLA by a 19-9 margin for the afternoon, including a 12-5 advantage over the final 45 minutes of play. The win was the Buccaneers' first over the Trailblazers in four years, as the last Massachusetts Maritime triumph in the series also came by a 1-0 final in double overtime on October 13, 2007 in Buzzards Bay.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Boston on Thursday afternoon to take on Wheelock in a non-league match that begins at 3:30 p.m., while MCLA travels to Poultney, Vt. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Green Mountain in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m.
