Mecca's double overtime goal lifts MCLA past Fitchburg 2-1

North Adams, MA- Trailblazer junior forward Joe Mecca tallied the game winner in double overtime as MCLA defeated Fitchburg State 2-1 in MASCAC Men's Soccer action.  With the win, MCLA improves to 5-8-1 overall (1-3-1 MASCAC) while Fitchburg falls to 3-10-1 (1-4 MASCAC).

After a scoreless opening period, the visiting Falcons would break through first.  Fitchburg's Chris Kleindl converted a Lionso Ventura cross for his fifth marker of the season in the 60th minute to put the Falcons up 1-0. 

MCLA would respond in the 78th minute when Jake McCall blasted a shot from 30 yards out that curled past Fitchburg keeper Aidan Hanratty to knot the score.  The tally was McCall's third of the season.

Following a scoreless overtime period, Mecca would knock home a through ball from Luke Davis for the game winner three minutes into the second overtime.  The goal was also his third of the season. 

Trailblazer Dillon Wager earned the win in goal stopping five shots on the day, while Hanratty would stop six.

MCLA outshot Fitchburg 20-14 on the afternoon while also holding a 9-3 edge in corners.  The physical contest featured 29 fouls and six cautions.

MCLA is off during the week and will return to the pitch next weekend when they travel to Westfield State on Saturday.
