MCLA routs Green Mountain, McCall tabbed offensive MVP

Norwich, VT- The MCLA Men's Soccer finished off a perfect weekend by blanking the Green Mountain Eagles 5-0 this afternoon.  The Trailblazers are now 2-0 on the season.  Green Mountain falls to 0-2.

The Trailblazers finished second in the classic as they lost out on the tiebreaker to host Norwich for the tournament title.  MCLA's Jake McCall was named the tournaments most outstanding offensive player, while teammates Scott Winslow and Dillon Wager were tabbed all tournament as well.

MCLA wasted no time in jumping on Green Mountain as Luke Fisher collected a pass from Joseph Mecca just 41 seconds into the match and beat Eagle keeper Toliver DiMasi for a 1-0 lead.  The goal was the first in Fisher's collegiate career.

Trailblazer senior captain continued his torrid start as he headed home a free kick from fellow captain Ryan Shewchuk in the 17th minute to push the lead to 2-0.  McCall would notch his second goal just three minutes later, this time using an Edgar Asamoah feed to push MCLA to a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.  McCall tallied four goals over the weekend surpassing last years season total in the process.

MCLA was credited with an own goal early in the second half before Asamoah belted home his first goal to provide the final margin.  The Trailblazers outshot Green Mountain 23-8 in the contest.

Trailblazer net minder Dillon Wager earned the win as he teamed with Shawn Willis and Matt Robinson to collect the shutout.

MCLA is off all week leading into the CIAO classic next weekend.  The Trailblazers will face SUNY-IT and Salve Regiina.
