Trailblazers fall to SUNY-IT in CIAO Classic 2-1

North Adams, MA- The visiting SUNY-IT Wildcats scored in the opening minute of the contest and then used a second half tally to upend the MCLA Trailblazers in the CIAO Classic 2-1.  With the win, the Wildcats improve to 2-1 and MCLA drops to 2-1 overall.

Just after the kickoff, the visitors Leighton Francis crossed a ball from the right corner and Cameron Adams was left all alone to beat MCLA keeper Dillon Wager just 57 seconds into the contest.  The tally seemed to rattle the hosts until they found the equalizer in the 32nd minute.

Trailblazer freshman Edgar Asamoah fired a shot the was blocked by the Wildcat defense.  As SUNY attempted to clear the ball, MCLA's James Brown found the loose ball and drilled it home to tie the score.  The match would remain tied into halftime.

The Wildcats controlled the majority of the second half and eventually got the game winner when Kurreem Williams scored off a Matt Arcidiacono feed in the 57th minute.  Wildcat keeper Malick Faye, who stopped five shots on the afternoon, made it stand to earn the victory.

Trailblazer keeper Dillon Wager absorbed the loss stopping 9 shots.

SUNY-IT will challenge Union (NY) tomorrow at noon while MCLA will battle Salve Regina at 2pm.

Salve knocks off defending champion Union 2-1 in CIAO Classic opener

North Adams, MA- The Salve Regina Seahawks scored a pair of second half goals as they held off defending champion Union College (NY) in the opening game of the 2012 CIAO Classic at Shewcraft Field.  With the win, Salve is now 2-0 while Union falls to 2-1 overall.

Union used a first half tally from Sebastiaan Jansen in the 20th minute as he headed home a free kick from Kevin Janson.  The lead would stand until the 50th minute when Salve would begin their rally. 

Zachary Kraft collected a rebound off a Kyle Knoth shot to easily beat Union keeper Ryan Carter tying the score.  Just eight minutes later, the Seahawks would notch the eventual winner when Rainer Randell scored in the 58th minute.

Union had some quality chances late, but couldn't equalize. 

Salve outshot Union 16-7 on the afternoon and held an 8-3 corner kick advantage. 

Carter would finish with 6 saves in absorbing the loss, while Daniel Stern earned the victory stopping 3 shots.

Union will challenge SUNY-IT tomorrow while Salve will face MCLA at 2pm.
