Trailblazers come up short against Salve Regina in CIAO Classic

North Adams, MA- The visiting Salve Regina Seahawks scored a first half goal and then held off MCLA as they beat the Trailblazers 1-0 this afternoon at Shewcraft field in the finale of the 2012 CIAO Classic.

With the win, Salve moves to 3-0 on the season while MCLA evens its record at 2-2.  The Seahawks also claimed the tournament championship following their undefeated weekend.

Salve scored the lone tally in the 39th minute following an MCLA turnover deep in their own end.  CIAO defensive MVP Bobby Ernst stole the ball from a Trailblazer defender, then crossed to a wide open Alex Wasilewski who easily beat MCLA keeper Dillon Wager.

Both teams traded quality chances early on as MCLA's Jake McCall misfired from close range while Salve pressured Wager throughout the first half.

The Seahawks held a decisive 20-10 shot advantage on the afternoon.

Wager stopped five shots for MCLA, while Daniel Stern earned his second win of the weekend as he finished with three saves for the shutout.

The Trailblazers are off until next weekend when they will open MASCAC play at Salem State on Saturday.
