Men's Soccer can't keep up with Castleton, fall 3-0

North Adams, MA- The visiting Castleton State Spartans defeated the MCLA Trailblazers 3-0 this afternoon in Men's Soccer action at Shewcraft Field in North Adams.  With the victory, the Spartans move to 7-2 overall, while MCLA drops to 3-5.

Both teams had great scoring opportunities early on.  Just three minutes in, MCLA's Luke Fisher had a shot just in front of the Spartan goal, but Nate Koenemann knocked it down.  After the Trailblazers got off two more shots on net, Castleton responded in the 8th minute.

Spencer Dandurand took the ball at top of the box following an MCLA turnover.  He ripped a shot from just outside the box that deflected off of MCLA's Scott Winslow, which redirected the shot easily past Dillon Wager for a 1-0 lead.  Castleton had a few more scoring threats to close out the half, but Wager stopped five shots in the period as the margin remained into halftime.

The Spartans wasted little time in the second stanza as Bryce Kaler converted a loose ball off a throw in from Tanner LeCuyer to make it 2-0 in the 49th minute.  Dillon Zaengle would take another LeCuyer pass and convert in the 73rd minute for the final margin.

Castleton outshot MCLA 22-10, including 11-4 in the closing period.

Koenemann stopped six shots to earn the shutout.  Wager would finish with seven saves before being replaced late in the match.

MCLA is back to MASCAC play on Saturday when they host Framingham State at 1pm.
