Men's Soccer ends season with 3-1 loss at Worcester State

Worcester, MA- The MCLA Trailblazers needed a victory to keep their season alive on Friday night, but they came up short, falling to the Worcester State Lancers 3-1 in what was their season finale.  With the loss, MCLA wraps up its season at 5-10 (1-6 MASCAC).  The Lancers clinched a MASCAC playoff berth as they improved to 4-10-2 overall (2-3-2 MASCAC).

The match marked the final game for the nine MCLA seniors: Dillon Wager, Scott Winslow, Ryan Shewchuk, Joseph Mecca, James Brown, Jake McCall, Alex Levine, Pat Endy, and Robert Furman.

The Lancers jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead as Alex Wolfel finished off a Brendan Whitson pass in the 7th minute giving the hosts the lead.  Whitson would be on the other end in the 41st minute as he hammered home a pass from Brian Cormier.  The 2-0 lead would remain into halftime.

MCLA controlled tempo and play in the early stages of the second half and clawed their way back in it.  McCall would connect on his team leading 7th goal of the season in the 53rd minute to slice to deficit to 2-1.

MCLA continued to pressure and had chances to tie the score, but Worcester took advantage of a Trailblazer miscue to stretch the lead.  Following a turnover in the backfield, Cormier fed a driving Whitson who easily beat Wager for a commanding 3-1 lead with under 18 minutes to play.  MCLA never threatened again.

Wager stopped five shots for MCLA while Tim Schmidt stopped 11 shots for the Lancers.  MCLA outshot Worcester 19-18 on the night.
