Men's Soccer drops season finale to Mass. Maritime 2-0

North Adams, MA- The visiting Massachusetts Maritime Buccaneers scored a pair of goals over the final ten minutes and in the process secured the fourth seed in next weekend's MASCAC Championships with a 2-0 victory over the MCLA Trailblazers this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.

Maritime improves its mark to 7-8-2 overall and finishes at 3-3-1 in the conference.  The Trailblazers end their season at 5-9-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the league.

After a scoreless first half in which the teams combined for only 12 shots, Maritime was able to break the ice after a frantic series of plays.  With MCLA pressuring in the MMA zone, Trailblazer Romeo Gray beat keeper Joe Cohen and appeared to score a certain goal.  However a Maritime defender slid over and cleared it off the line.

Using that momentum, Maritime would push towards the Trailblazer end.  In the 79th minute, MCLA caught a break when Rob Robbs' shot caromed off the crossbar.  Just a minute later though, MMA would strike.

Taylor Sjoberg held possession in the far right corner and slipped a cross into the box where Connor McInnis would knock it home to give the visitors a 1-0 edge.  It was McInnis' third goal of the season.  Just five minutes later, MMA would add another tally when Robbs scored off a direct kick that just eluded MCLA net minder Shawn Willis for an insurmountable 2-0 lead.

The Trailblazers never really threatened over the final minutes.

Cohen was outstanding stopping 7 shots in earning the win.  Willis suffered his first defeat making 4 saves.

Maritime will host a playoff game on Tuesday against an opponent yet to be determined.

MCLA honored their six seniors prior to game time in Tyler Guzzi, Robert Furman, Willis, Drew Webster, Tedd Cecchetelli, and Robert Dalby.
