WCSU tops MCLA in men's soccer home opener 4-2

North Adams, MA- The visiting Western Connecticut men's soccer team used a balanced scoring attack as they pushed past the Trailblazers 4-2 this afternoon in non conference action.  With the win, the Colonials earned their first win and sit at 1-2 while MCLA is also 1-2.

WCSU had four different players get into the scoring column in the win.

After leading at halftime 2-1, the Colonials extended their lead to 3-1 in the 51st minute when Robert Della Penna converted from in close off a rebound.  MCLA would answer when Jesse Moore corralled a turnover and ripped a shot past WCSU keeper Felix Escobar from 35 yards out just twenty seconds later.  His second goal of the game made it 3-2 in favor of the visitors.

The Colonials would get some breathing room when freshman Cole Hyla would score on a beautiful through pass from Zach Rizzo making it 4-2 with just twenty minutes remaining.  The visitors would keep MCLA at bay the rest of the way preserving the victory. 

In the first half, the Colonials got on top early scoring in the sixth minute when Darion Richeme converted off a loose ball.  The score would remain that way until the 28th minute when Chauncey Allers would head home a beautiful corner kick off the foot of Robert Della Penna to make it 2-0 Colonials.

The Trailblazers had a much needed answer and finally got it in the 31st minute.  Anthony Basile headed a ball into the box and it found its way to Jesse Moore.  Moore headed the ball past Colonial keeper Luca DiCarlo cutting the lead in half at 2-1.

The Colonials owned a decisive 24-12 shot advantage as well as a 10-8 mark in corners.

DiCarlo earned the win in net playing the first half and stopping three shots to earn the win.  He was replaced in the second half by Escobar who stopped three shots as well.

Kamron Anderson took the loss for MCLA collecting 5 saves.
