Men's Tennis falls to NAC foe Green Mountain 9-0

RUTLAND, Vt. – The Green Mountain College men's tennis team earned its first victory of the year by defeating North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe MCLA 9-0 at the Vermont Sport and Fitness Club on Saturday afternoon.

Green Mountain (1-3, 1-0 NAC) collected three doubles wins and then also swept the singles action to pick up its first win of the season and first conference win.

First flight doubles saw Connor Braden and partner Nate Berner-Tobin earn a hard fought 8-6 decision over MCLA's pairing of Robert Wabshinak and Taylor Krowitz. GMC's Jack Hepburn and teammate Grey McCampbell served and volleyed their way past MCLA's Jeffrey Mason and Cristian Sanchez, 8-1, in second flight doubles.  The final doubles match witnessed the Eagles' pairing of Andrew Woodman and Adrian Torres picking up their first career wins over the Trailblazer duo of Richard Larocque and Ray Yelle, 8-0.

In first flight singles, Braden extended his unbeaten streak in singles play to 13 games with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Wabshinak.  Berner-Tobin slipped past Krowitz 6-2, 7-5 in the second singles slot for his second singles win of the year, while Hepburn won his third straight singles match in the number three slot with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mason.

Fourth flight singles action pitted McCampbell against Sanchez and the Eagles' sophomore ousted his opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 for his first career victory.  Woodman also earned his first career victory and gave the Eagles another match win in the number five slot as he defeated Larocque 6-2, 6-0. Forrest Teutsch continued the trend, earning his first career victory in the sixth flight by upending Andrea Binder 6-3, 6-0.

Green Mountain will travel to Norwich on Wednesday to battle the Cadets in non-conference action at 3 p.m. MCLA (0-2, 0-1 NAC) will return home to take on Johnson St. on Sunday at 1 p.m.
