Tennis earns first win of 2018 with 8-1 victory over NAC foe Lyndon State
Bennington, VT- The MCLA Men's Tennis team defeated Lyndon State College 8-1 this afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action. The Trailblazers earned their first win of 2018 as they improve to 1-3 overall and are now 1-1 in the conference. The Hornets remain winless as they are 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.
MCLA started the day by earning a pair of points via forfeit before they hit a serve. The Trailblazers would take the third doubles match and sixth singles match via forfeit.
The top doubles tandem of Aaron Goldsmith and Jared Freeman earned a hard fought point by defeating the Lyndon team of Jake LaCerda and Neal Mulligan 8-6. Charles Najimy and Matt Bluteau took the second doubles point by a convincing 8-1 margin over Korey Steele and Mukhtar Abdullahi.
In singles play, Goldsmith defeated LaCerda in a great matchup 7-5, 4-6, 10-7. Mulligan took Lyndon's lone point of the afternoon as he defeated Freeman 6-3, 6-2.
The Trailblazers would take the final three singles matches all in straight sets. Najimy earned his second point by handling Steele 6-0, 6-1. Bluteau followed suit as he earned a singles win over Abdullahi 6-1, 6-1. Mohamed Mahrous closed out the scoring earning a 6-0, 6-1 win over Raymond Monroe for MCLA.
Both teams will meet again on Wednesday, this time in non league play.
