Mixed Tennis earns second seed in this weekend's NAC Championships

The Thomas College men's tennis team (10-4 overall) met preseason predictions and claimed the top spot in the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East men's tennis tournament with an unblemished record (4-0) in conference matches.

MCLA (6-4 overall, 3-1 NAC) dropped only one conference match, to Thomas, to enter the tournament with the second-seed. The Trailblazers' roster features a mixed-gender squad, and exceeded preseason expectations as they were picked to finish fifth and outside of the tournament field.

NAC newcomer SUNY Delhi (4-7, 2-2) enters the tournament at No. 3, and Northern Vermont-Lyndon (1-10, 1-3) completes the field at No. 4. Northern Vermont-Lyndon beat Northern Vermont-Johnson in the last conference match of the season to claim the final tournament spot.

No. 1 Thomas will face No. 4 NVU-Lyndon, and No. 2 MCLA will play No. 3 SUNY Delhi in semifinal matches on Saturday, April 27 at The Edge in Essex Junction, Vermont. Semifinal matches are scheduled at 9:00 AM and noon, with the order of play still to be determined. Though scheduled for noon, the second semifinal will begin approximately 45 minutes after the first semifinal match concludes. The semifinal winners will face off for the 2019 NAC East Championship later that afternoon. All matches will be played to decision.

MCLA defeated Delhi in a nailbiter just a few days ago and will once again challenge the Broncos.  The Trailblazers earned a hard fought 5-4 decision over the Broncos at home last Thursday.

The NAC East Champion will compete against the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) champion in a crossover championship event on Sunday, May 5 in Latham, New York.
