Men Cross Country 32nd in ECAC Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- The Williams men captured their 7th straight ECAC Championship on Saturday.

Senior captain Mark Springel was the first Eph to finish the 8k course in 26.23, immediately followed by senior Ford Smith in 26.33 and Junior Scott Rodilitz in 26.34 to cap off a winning team score of 44 points.

Tufts University finished 2nd with 77 points and Middlebury College finished 3rd with 102 points.

Antoine Gisore, a sophomore from New England College captured the highly contested men's individual title.  Williams's Mark Springel, Ford Smith, and Middlebury's Patrick Hebble (2nd place finisher overall) each made attempts at the lead.  Gisore was the familiar face at the front and was able to maintain first position through the finish line.

MCLA finished 32nd and Anthony Cancilla placed 84th out of the 300 running in the men's field. Cancilla finished with a time of 28:44 and averaged a 5:47 mile. David Eve was next across for MCLA and finished 177th overall. MCLA finished 2nd out of the four MASCAC teams competing; with only Westfield finishing ahead of the Trailblazers. Forty-four teams competed overall.

Despite the Nor'easter snowstorm that swept through western Massachusetts with 10 inches last Friday, the snow melted for a clear, sunny, and dry race and produced impressive finishing times and efforts.
