Quackenbush tabbed as MASCAC Player and Pitcher of the Week

MASCAC Weekly Release

North Adams, MA- MCLA junior Rachel Quackenbush has had quite a weekend.  Fresh off leading her team to the first MASCAC tournament championship in school history, the captain was named both the player and pitcher of the week.  Quackenbush was also named the tournament MVP following her performances over the weekend.

The right hander was outstanding all tournament long as she logged an impressive 28.1 innings pitched and did not allow an earned run.  She struck out 29 hitters and gave up just 15 hits in the tournament as she went 3-0 for MCLA.

She tossed all seven innings in the championship clinching 6-0 win over Salem State yesterday, notching 10 strikeouts along the way.  It marked the fifth time that Quackenbush has struck out double digits this season.

Prior to the clinching win, she logged an exhausting 15 innings in Friday's 4-3 win over Bridgewater State.  She whiffed 13 Bears in that contest and allowed just six hits.

Quackenbush also made her mark at the plate with a pair of key hits in the tournament.  In Saturday's matchup with top seeded Worcester State, she belted a two run homer in the tenth inning to give MCLA breathing room before closing it out in the bottom half.

In yesterday's championship game, she wasted little time putting MCLA in front as she roped another two run homer, this one to left centerfield and then made it stand all afternoon long.

MCLA won the conference for the first time since 1995, however this marks their first ever tournament title as it began in 2001.  The Trailblazers will open NCAA play on Friday against Williams College.
