Softball is sixth seed in this week's MASCAC Championships, will face Westfield Thursday

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Softball team will get a chance to defend their 2015 MASCAC tournament championship as the Trailblazers have earned the sixth seed in this week's Championship tournament.  The Worcester State Lancers are the regular season champion and the top seed in the tournament.

Play will open in the 2016 tournament with a single elimination round on Thursday.  MCLA will travel to third seeded Westfield State for a 3:30pm start.  The winner will move on to the double elimnation round and play at Bridgewater State on Friday.  In Thursday's other elimination game, Salem State will take on Fitchburg with the winner advancing to play the top seeded Lancers on Friday.

MCLA, which swept through the 2015 tournament, will take on the Owls who took a pair of games from the Trailblazers on April 27th.   Westfield took game one 8-4 before winning the nightcap 5-1.

The Trailblazers have struggled to score runs of late as they've crossed home plate just ten times over their final six MASCAC contests.  In the circle, MCLA is led by senior Rachel Quackenbush.  The right hander leads the league in strikeouts with 137 on the season while collecting 7 wins.

The eventual MASCAC champion will advance to the NCAA tournament which begins next weekend at various locations.
