Softball swept by Williams

Williamstown, MA- The MCLA Softball team was swept this afternoon by Williams College.  The Trailblazers dropped the opening game 19-0 in five innings before falling 9-1 in the nightcap.  With the losses, MCLA falls to 6-14 on the season.  The Ephs improve to 23-6.

Game One:

Williams came out swinging as they posted a twelve run first inning highlighted by a trio of home runs to take control.  Jessica Kim led off the game with a home run for an early 1-0 and the Ephs would add three more runs before Kim came up again.  This time, her bases clearing double made it 7-0.  Lexi Curt and Margo Beck would add home runs in the frame as the hosts took a commanding 12-0 lead after one at bat.

Curt would hit her second dinger of the day in the third to extend the lead to 13-0 and Kirstin Mapes and Brenna Martinez also hit round trippers to extend the lead to 16-0.  Williams would add three more in the fourth to account for the final score.

The Ephs would outhit the Trailblazers 13-2 in the contest.  Curt led the hosts with a 3-4 effort and drove in three runs and scored three times.  Mapes got the win in the circle tossing the first four innings and allowing just one hit.

Kara Adams and Ashley Wilson had the lone hits for MCLA.  Samantha Feinstein absorbed the loss for the Trailblazers.

Game Two:

The Ephs scored four times in the second inning to put the Trailblazers on their heels.  Brenna Martinez started the surge with an RBI double to center field for a 1-0 edge.  Curt continued her torrid afternoon with a run scoring single to make it 2-0.  Mackenzie Murphy and Riley Salvo added RBI's in the inning as the Ephs built a 4-0 lead.  

Curt ripped a two run double to extend the Eph lead to 6-0 in the third before MCLA finally got on the board in the fourth.  MCLA would score an unearned run as Nevada Nelsen scored after belting a double to make it 6-1.

Williams would put the game away with three runs in the fifth to earn the win.

The Ephs outhit MCLA 14-1 in the nightcap.  Curt once again was perfect going 3-3 in game two with three RBI's.  Murphy added three hits of her own while Rebecca Duncan chipped in with two.  Emma Corbett earned the win for Williams allowing just one hit.

Kara Adams took the loss for MCLA.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Saturday when they head to Worcester State for a MASCAC twinbill.
