Softball shut out twice at Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.—The MCLA Softball team was shutout twice today dropping both ends of a doubleheader at Framingham State. The Rams took the opener 12-0 in five innings before taking game two 8-0, also in five innings. With the sweep Framingham State improves to 19-9 (6-0 MASCAC) while MCLA falls to 6-20 (0-6 MASCAC).

After posting two runs in the 1st, Framingham would erupt for seven more in the bottom of the 2nd as Brooke Grassia (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and Makayla Rooney (3-for-3, 3 RBI) would each drive in a pair of runs before a Gwendolyn Carpenter (3-for-3, HR, 4 RBI) 3-run homer made it 9-0.

Rooney and Carpenter would both single in runs in the 3rd and Angelina Lynch (2-for-2, HR, RBI) would homer in the 4th as the Rams cruised to the 5 inning 12-0 win.

Madison Teta, Kristie Zator, Madyson Torres, Justina Pardi and Maggie Closinski all had a hit for MCLA.

Framingham's Ally Moran (W, 13-3) pitched three shutout innings allowing three hits while striking out one batter in the win. MCLA starting pitcher Gabriella Cozzolino (L, 0-6) allowed 7 runs (six earned) on six hits in the loss.

Framingham's Carpenter stayed hot in game two doubling in two runs in the bottom of the 1st and later stealing home to help the Rams to a four-run inning. The hosts would add a run in the 3rd and 4th to make it 6-0.

A solo shot by Carpenter in the 5th would make it 7-0 and later in the inning a Keeley Scotia double to left-center field would bring home Talia Duca to make it 8-0 ending the game and giving the Rams the sweep.

Hailey Peabody, Torres and Ezmeralda Albright each singled for the Trailblazers.

Olivia Mendonca (W, 4-3) pitched 5 shutout innings only allowing three hits while striking out three batters in the win for the Rams. Lidia Flores (L, 3-8) went the distance for MCLA allowing all eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits while striking out two batters.

Framingham next hosts Salem State Monday at noon while MCLA travels to Westfield State on Tuesday.
