FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Due to snowstorms earlier this week, the MCLA Softball team saw their MASCAC matchup with Framingham State this afternoon moved down to Framingham because the MCLA softball diamond wasn't ready for action. Despite playing on Framingham State's home field, the Trailblazers were recognized as the home team for the pair of games.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Saturday, April 6, 2024
  • Game #1: Framingham State 12, MCLA 1
  • Game #2: Framingham State 19, MCLA 3
  • Records: Framingham State Rams 8-8 (MASCAC 3-1) | MCLA Trailblazers 6-13 (MASCAC 0-4)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Game #1
    • The Framingham State bats were on fire in the first inning, as the Rams not only batted around but also scored around, putting up 11 runs on 11 hits by the time the frame was completed. The most notable hit was a two-run homerun from ninth-place hitter Victoria Connelly. The Rams added one additional run on two hits in the top of the second inning.
    • MCLA scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kristie Zator led off the inning with a single centerfield before advancing to third on a one-out double to left by Maggie Closinski. Two batters later, Madyson Torres brought her home with an RBI single to right.
    • Framingham State's Ally Moran threw three innings of one hit ball to pick up her sixth win of the year, improving her record to 6-1. Despite only allowing two hits over her final three innings, Sarah Williams took the loss to fall to 4-6.
  • Game #2
    • The Rams's bat remained hot in the second game, with the "visitors" being less than gracious hosts. They scored four or more runs in three of the first four innings, with the biggest scoring explosion coming in the first inning when Framingham put up an eight-spot to start the game.
    • Three different Ram players went yard, getting home runs from Gwendolyn Carpenter (a two-run shot to cap the eight-run first inning), Kelsey McGuill (a two-run homer that capped the four-run fourth inning), and Eliza Carignan (a solo home run for the only run of the fifth inning).
    • MCLA did mount a small rally in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring two runs. The first came home on an RBI single by Ezmeralda Albright that scored Maddy Teta. Kristie Zator scored when Albright beat the throw to second on Hannah Meacham's RBI fielder's choice.
    • Lora Woyton led off the home fifth inning with a home run that set the end score at 19-3.
    • Caroline Hughes went the distance in the second game, striking out three while scattering six hits to earn her second win of the season to move to 2-7. Woyton also went the distance for the Trailblazers but still fell to 2-5.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Woyton's home run in the fifth inning of game number two was her second home run in as many games, having homered against Elms College on Tuesday.

UP NEXT:
