MCLA rallies past Fitchburg 72-67, sets program record for victories

North Adams, MA- The MCLA women's basketball team rallied in the second half to defeat visiting Fitchburg State 72-67 on Senior night.  With the win, the Trailblazers set a program record for victories in a season with 15.  They improve to 15-8 overall, 4-7 in the league.   The Falcons fall to 10-14, and also 4-7 in the league.

The win set a program record for wins in a season (15), breaking the mark set one year ago. 

Prior to the start of the game, MCLA recognized the three seniors playing in their final regular season home game, Laura Silverman (Ballston Lake, NY), Ali Leveille (Southampton, MA), and Jade Prickett (Westhampton, MA). 

Fitchburg took a 40-34 lead into halftime on the strength of a 14-4 run with about five minutes remaining in the half.  The Falcons Molly Maloney was the catalyst knocking down three treys en route to the halftime edge.

At the start of the second half, Fitchburg extended their lead to as many as thirteen points, leading 52-39 with 13:24 to play.  After trading baskets for the next few possessions, Fitchburg led 56-46 after a Rebecca Goreham jumper.  MCLA would then mount 10-1 run to cut the lead to a point at 57-56.  MCLA Freshmen Lucy Tremblay (East Greenbush, NY) started the run with consecutive baskets.

Fitchburg bumped the lead back to three at 59-56, but MCLA responded with a 5-0 run to take the lead for keeps at 61-59.  Fitchburg would even up on two occasions, but could not reclaim the advantage.

Tremblay would score her team's final four points to ice the game.

Tremblay finished with 24 points, 5 rebounds, and four assists.  Sophomore forward Jen Wehner would add 17 points, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. Silverman would tally 9 points and five boards in her final home game.

The visitors placed four players in double figures with Maloney leading the way 18.  Melissa Proffitt added 13, while Goreham finished with 12 points and a game high nine rebounds.  Kelley Rodgers also added 11 points, including 8-8 from the line.

MCLA remains in the hunt for a MASCAC playoff berth and will wrap up play this weekend at Bridgewater State.
