MCLA suffocates Johnson state, runs record to 7-1 with 73-48 road win

JOHNSON, Vt. - Visiting Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts used a suffocating defensive effort to defeat host Johnson State College on Saturday 73-48 in women's non-conference basketball action.  The Trailblazers held Johnson to a 29% shooting day and outrebounded the Badgers 47-32.   MCLA moves to 7-1 with the victory.

MCLA led 35-24 after the first half as the Trailblazers shot 57% from the floor and forced 11 JSC turnovers.  Lucy Tremblay (East Greenbush, N.Y.) led MCLA with 11 points over the first 20 minutes.  The Badgers struggled making shots throughout but shot only 9-for-35 (26%) in the second stanza and could not close the gap.

Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, N.Y.) and Tremblay led MCLA with 14 points apiece while Hilary Perks (Saugerties, N.Y.) added 12 points and Molly Broda (Southampton, Mass.) with 11 points were also in double-figures.

Johnson was led by Maria Gleason (Enosburg, Vt./Enosburg) and her 13 points, six assists, and five steals.  Christine Tatro (Eden, Vt./Lamoille) added 11 points of the Badgers bench.

Johnson concludes their first semester schedule and will not play again until January 6 when they travel to New England College for a 5:00 tip while MCLA will play at Wheelock on Monday night at 5:30 pm.
