MCLA can't handle Salem, fall at home 68-53
North Adams, MA- MCLA's Lucy Tremblay tallied 14 points, but the Trailblazers could not handle the size of Salem State in a 68-53 loss at the Amsler Campus Center. With the loss, MCLA falls to 12-7, 2-6 in the MASCAC. Salem improves to 13-6, 5-2 in the league.
In the opening half, the visitors came out strong and took a quick 6-0 advantage. Salem would maintain a comfortable edge in the half, extending to 14 points (22-8) with 8:30 to go. After MCLA cut the lead to ten with 5:22 remaining (24-14), the Vikings would mount a 15-7 run to close out the half leading 39-21.
Salem senior Danielle Jenkins had a strong opening half as she tallied 14 points. She also notched her 1,500th career point with just under 5:00 minutes remaining.
In the second half, Salem extended to a 22 point edge early on before MCLA mounted a bit of a run. Trailing 53-33 early in the second half, the Trailblazers would start a 15-7 run to close within 12 at 60-48 with 7:00 minutes remaining. Salem would answer with 6-1 run to essentially put the game away.
Jenkins would finish her night with 26 points, 9 boards, and 5 blocks. Freshmen Brianna Wilson would tally a double double recording 13 points and 11 boards. Senior Jakoya Wilkins added 6 assists.
For MCLA, Lucy Tremblay finished with 14 points to lead the way. Alie Dobrovolc was the only other Trailblazer in double figures. MCLA shot only 29% in the loss, while Salem converted at a 42% clip.
MCLA will play a non league game Friday Night at home against Sage, while Salem will battle Westfield on Saturday.
