MCLA improves to 6-1 with runaway win over ACP 76-54

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's basketball team improved to 6-1 by defeating Albany College of Pharmacy 76-54 this evening at the Amsler Campus Center Gym.  The Panthers fell to 2-7 with the loss.

ACP jumped out to a quick 7-4 advantage three minutes into the contest on a pair of free throws from Kelly Van Valkenburgh.  MCLA would respond with a 24-2 run over the next nine minutes.  The run was fueled by freshman Lucy Tremblay (East Greenbush, NY) who poured in 10 points during that stretch, including a pair of three pointers.

ACP bounced back however, and answered the MCLA run by closing the half with a 15-4 spurt to close within nine at the break.  The Panthers would trim the margin to seven points early in the second half before MCLA pulled gradually pulled away.

Sophomore Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY) had a strong second half along with junior point guard Hilary Perks (Saugerties, NY).  They tallied nine and eight points respectively in the second half. 

Wehner would finish the game with 20 points and 15 boards while Tremblay ended the night with 17.  Every Trailblazer broke into the scoring column in the win.

Van Valkenburgh paced ACP finishing with 19 points and 11 boards.  Alex Oaks also had a productive night tallying 17 points and nine rebounds.  ACP was plagued by 30 turnovers in the game.

MCLA returns to the court on Saturday when they travel to Johnson State.
