Trailblazers open season with road win at St. Joseph's (CT) 62-60

West Hartford, CT- The MCLA Women's Basketball team opened the 2011-12 campaign with a hard fought 62-60 road win over St. Joseph's (CT).  Trailblazer Alie Dobrovolc led three players in double figures with 15 points while also adding 7 assists.

Senior Jen Wehner chipped in with a double double of 13 points and 14 rebounds, while junior Lucy Tremblay added 13 points.

MCLA almost squandered an eight point lead at 58-50 with five minutes to play as the hosts rallied with a 10-2 run to knot the score at 60 with 35 seconds left.  MCLA would have possession, and after a timeout ran the clock down putting the ball in Tremblay's hands.  The junior made a nice back door pass to a cutting Kaitlyn Chenevert who layed the ball in with just two seconds remaining.

St. Joseph's (CT) never got off a desperation shot in time.

The opening half saw SJC jump out early, leading by 11 just six minutes into the contest at 17-6.  The Trailblazers would rally however, cutting the deficit to just two at the break at 31-29.

The hosts were led by Mary Hyde, who collected a game high 16 points.  Heather Framski added 15 while Devon Diliberto chipped in with 10.

Each team was a bit sloppy in the opener as MCLA committed 23 turnovers, while the hosts had 20.  The Trailblazers did hold a 53-41 edge off the glass however.

MCLA will travel to Becker on Tuesday night.
