Trailblazers fall to Bates in Norwich Hockenberry Classic 87-69

Norwich, VT- MCLA's Alie Dobrovolc scored a game high 22 points, yet Bates College pulled away in the second half to defeat MCLA 87-69 in the Norwich Hockenberry Classic.  Bates will move on to play Norwich tomorrow in the Championship round, while MCLA will face UMaine-Fort Kent in the consolation game at 1pm.

MCLA would shoot out to a 40-36 halftime edge behind Dobrovolc, who was a perfect 4-4 in the opening twenty minutes.  The second half was a different story however.

After Dobrovolc added a pair of free throws to open the second half pushing the margin to 42-36, Bates would go on a 14-0 run to take a commanding 50-42 lead with 13:21 to play.  The margin would swell to double digits before falling on the final margin of 18. 

Aside from Dobrovolc's night, Kaitlyn Chenevert finished with a season high 14 points.  Jen Wehner collected 12 points and Danielle Scolpino chipped in with 11.

For Bates, they placed five players in double figures led by Meredith Kelly's 21 points.  Molly Brown and Kelsey Flaherty added 13 each, while Allie Beaulieu and Brianna Hawkins collected 12 each.

MCLA was plagued with 27 turnovers compared to 15 for Bates.

The Trailblazers are now 2-2 heading into tomorrow's matchup, while Bates improves to 2-2.
