Trailblazers win third straight, best Union (NY) 64-55
North Adams, MA- MCLA won their third straight contest as they defeated Union (NY) 64-55 Wednesday night. With the win, the Trailblazers move to 5-2, while Union drops to 3-3 overall.
Lucy Tremblay led MCLA with a game high 23 points.
The first half saw MCLA take advantage of Lucy Tremblay's hot start as they quickly jumped out to a 19-10 lead at the midway point of the half as she collected 11 points in the spurt. The Trailblazers would stretch out to a 27-14 lead following another Tremblay triple before Union cut into the deficit.
Union would outscore MCLA 13-4 over the closing minutes of the half, slicing the lead to 31-27 off a Kate Thompson layup, but MCLA's Alyson Stolz connected from three point range with just two seconds remaining giving the hosts a 34-27 lead at halftime.
After halftime and MCLA holding a 39-29 lead, Union began to climb back into the game. They used a 14-6 spurt to pull within a basket at 45-43 with 10:33 remaining. MCLA responded with a 13-6 run, pushing the margin back to 56-47. Union would get no closer than five the remainder of the game.
Tremblay collected 15 of her 23 point in the opening half, shooting 8-16, including 6-7 from three point range. Jen Wehner chipped in with a double double, collecting 10 points and 16 boards. She also added 7 blocked shots. Alie Dobrovolc finished with 14 points.
For Union, Shayla Madden finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Joining her in double figures was Marissa Ray with 10 points.
Both teams shot poorly overall, with MCLA shooting 37% and Union only 29%. Union also committed 19 turnovers, while MCLA had 24.
MCLA is back in action on Friday night when they travel to Hartwick.
