MCLA's three game winning streak snapped at Hartwick 71-59

Hartwick, NY- The MCLA Women's Basketball team entered Friday night's game at Hartwick riding a three game winning streak.  It was also the team's fifth game in eight days.  The tough stretch proved too much as host Hartwick suffocated MCLA early on en route to a 71-59 win over the Trailblazers.

MCLA falls to 5-3 while Hartwick moves to 7-2 overall.

Trailblazer Jen Wehner earned her third straight double double leading MCLA with 19 points and 13 rebounds.  Kate Purcell led Hartwick with a game high 29 points.

Hartwick scored the first seven points and never looked back.  That lead blossomed to 24-4 with 11:49 left until halftime.  They led by as many as 21 before settling for a 41-24 lead at halftime.

MCLA got within 44-32 just three minutes into the second half, but the hosts used an 8-2 run to put the game out of reach.  The Trailblazer never got closer than the final margin the rest of the way.

One key for Hartwick was to control MCLA's leading scorer Lucy Tremblay.  Tremblay entered the game averaging over 17ppg but was held scoreless in the contest.  She battled tough defense all night long while also combatting foul trouble.  Hartwick also held Alie Dobrovolc in check as she was just 2-12 in the opening half.  She did finish with 18 points and 9 rebounds, but the game was out of reach.

Joining Purcell in double figures was Maria Foglia and Carlee Hirt who each finished with 12 points.

MCLA will wrap up semester play at home on Wednesday when they host Smith College at 7pm.
