MCLA uses fast start to sprint past Southern Vermont 76-50

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Trailblazers Women's Basketball team outscored visiting Southern Vermont College 15-2 at the start en route to a convincing 76-50 victory for the Trailblazers over the Mountaineers.  MCLA snapped a four game slide in the process, evening their record at 6-6.  SVC dropped to 3-6.

MCLA's Jen Wehner, who was honored during the pregame for collecting her 1,000th career rebound, led all scorers with a season high 27 points.  She was 9-11 from the floor and 9-12 from the free throw line.

Wehner scored 13 points in the opening period, including seven points in the opening burst.  Teammate Alie Dobrovolc added six points in the spurt as well.  MCLA would open up their largest first half lead at 41-17 before SVC added a free throw to make it 41-18 at halftime. 

MCLA opened the second half on a 9-3 run pushing the margin to 51-21 and SVC never challenged from there.  The Mountaineers were hampered by 27 turnovers on the night.

Joining Wehner in double figures for MCLA was Dobrovolc, who would finish with 10 points.  Olivia McMullen chipped in with a game high 10 rebounds.

For SVC, they were led by Joa Claircius' 16 points.  Alyssa Davis added 8.

The Trailblazers are off until Tuesday night when they open MASCAC play at Salem State.
