Wehner posts 20-20 night, but MCLA loses to Framingham 70-58
Framingham, MA- MCLA senior Jen Wehner posted 20 points, 21 rebounds, and 6 blocks, but it wasn't enough as the Trailblazers dropped a road tilt to MASCAC foe Framingham State University 70-58. With the loss, MCLA is now 8-8 overall, 2-2 in MASCAC play. The Rams earned their first conference win of the season and are now 1-4 in the league, but 9-7 overall.
As much as Wehner was dominating for MCLA, the Rams Madeliene Park was even more impressive. The senior went off for 32 points on 10-15 shooting, which included 4-6 from three point range. She also collected 11 boards to complete a double double.
Park and Wehner went toe to toe in the opening period. Park scored 19 of Framingham's 36 points in the opening twenty minutes, while Wehner accounted for 16 of MCLA's 34. The Trailblazers led for most of the opening half before Framingham rallied late to take the lead into the locker room.
The Rams used an 18-6 burst out of the locker room to bolt to a 54-40 lead with twelve minutes remaining. Park added six points in the burst as Framingham took control.
MCLA battled back and got within four when freshman Alyson Stolz, who had a season high 8 points off the bench, knocked down a jumper with five minutes to play making it 57-53. After each team traded baskets, the Rams used a decisive 11-3 run to close out the Trailblazers.
Wehner was 8-17 from the floor and had 10 offensive rebounds on the night. She added 6 blocked shots as well. Alie Dobrovolc also had a double double finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds. MCLA shot only 33% for the game.
Aside from Park's big night, Framingham's Kristen Hoffman added 16 points and 5 steals. Nicole Bostic chipped in with 9 points.
MCLA will host Fitchburg State on Saturday at 1pm.
