Trailblazers blow past Fitchburg 90-64

North Adams, MA- MCLA received a pair of double doubles from Alie Dobrovolc and Jen Wehner en route to a convincing 90-64 win over Fitchburg State University.  The Trailblazers improve to 3-2 in the MASCAC, 9-8 overall.  The Falcons drop to 2-3 in conference play, 14-3 overall.  The ninety points were a season high for MCLA.

Dobrovolc finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds.  Wehner collected 24 points, 18 rebounds, and 7 blocked shots.  The MCLA defense held MASCAC leading scorer Amy Fahey of Fitchburg to 4 points on just 1-15 shooting before fouling out.

The first half saw MCLA jump out quickly thanks to the efforts of Wehner.  The Trailblazers jumped out to a 15-4 lead on a Wehner jumper just six minutes into the contest.  Fitchburg battled back as Meaghan Secino caught fire from behind the arc.  The sophomore came off the bench to connect on four three pointers during a 16-6 Falcon run to bring Fitchburg back within a point at 21-20.

Fitchburg eventually tied the game up at 28 on a Madison Marek triple, but MCLA used a closing 15-7 run to take a 43-35 lead at the break.  Wehner had a first half double double finishing with 17 points and 14 rebounds.  Danielle Scolpino added six assists in the half while Alie Dobrovolc chipped in with 11 first half points.  The Falcons Secino finished with 15 first half points, all on three pointers, to keep Fitchburg within striking distance.

MCLA used a 25-5 run to start the second half to finish off the Falcons.  Dobrovolc collected 14 points in the second half.

Each team played without a starter as MCLA's Lucy Tremblay missed her third straight game, while MASCAC leading rebounder, Rebecca Goreham was absent for Fitchburg.

Scolpino finished with a season high 8 assists.  She also added 8 points and 7 rebounds.  Katelyn Chenevert finished with 10 points and 4 assists as well.

The Falcons were led by Secino's 15 points.  She did not score in the second half.  Kelsey Johnston chipped in with 10 as did Gina Angelini.

MCLA held a commanding 60-37 rebounding edge while holding Fitchburg to just 28% shooting from the floor.  The Trailblazers shot 49% for the game.

MCLA is back in action on Wednesday when they host Bridgewater State at 5:30pm.
