MCLA pressure too much for Becker, defeat the Hawks 74-51

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Trailblazers parlayed a strong second half into a convincing 74-51 victory over Becker College this evening at the Amsler Campus Center.  With the win, the Trailblazers improve to 2-0 on the season while Becker drops to 0-3.

The Trailblazers placed four players in double figures led by Lucy Tremblay's 14 points.  Joining her in double figures with 12 points each were Sara Hamilton, Danielle Scolpino, and Kaitlyn Chenevert.

The Hawks were led by Tatiana Mojica's game high 27 points.  Point guard Haley Ooms had a strong floor game with 9 assists and 6 caroms.

MCLA jumped out to a 19-4 lead just 6:15 into the contest as they made nine of their first thirteen shots.  Becker would steadily climb back into the contest, using a 14-4 spurt to close within 23-18 at the 7:38 mark of the opening half.  The Trailblazers would stretch out to a nine point lead again at 27-18, until the Hawks closed on a 8-3 run to settle the half at 31-26 in favor of MCLA.

In the second half, Becker scored the first five points to knot the score at 31 before MCLA made a strong run to seize control.  The hosts ripped off a 19-4 run to take a commanding 50-35 lead with 12:32 remaining.  The lead ballooned to 26 at 66-40 with under seven minutes to play and Becker never threatened from there.

MCLA's Hamilton completed the double double notching a team high 10 rebounds.  She also added 3 blocks.  Johanna Miner had a nice night off the bench totaling 8 points, 7 boards, and 4 assists.  Scolpino chipped in with 6 assists to lead the team.

Mojica shot 11-18 from the floor and added a team high 8 rebounds and 7 steals. 

MCLA forced Becker into 31 turnovers on the night.

The Trailblazers are off until after Thanksgiving when they will battle Williams on Sunday.
