Scolpino buries Lehman with three point barrage, MCLA earns 78-71 win

Salisbury, MD- MCLA's Danielle Scolpino drained four second half three pointers, including the go ahead triple in the final minute, leading MCLA past Lehman College in a hard fought opening round matchup in the Salisbury (MD) tournament.  With the win, MCLA is now 3-1 on the season and will face the tournament hosts in the finals tomorrow.

Scolpino finished with 20 points, all in the second half, to lead the Trailblazers.  Danielle Beauchamp had her best outing in a Trailblazer uniform collecting 19 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.  Lucy Tremblay finished with a double double effort of 13 points and a career high 15 rebounds.  Kaitlyn Chenvert finished with 15 points.

Lehman scored the final six points of the first half to knot the score at 29 heading into the locker room.  Lehman would actually use a 7-0 run to jump ahead 44-38 lead with over 12 minutes to play.  That is when Scolpino caught fire.

MCLA regained the lead on her first triple to give the Trailblazers a 55-52 lead with seven minutes to play.  Every time Lehman would rally, she would answer.  Her third trey of the half pushed the lead to four points at 67-63 with four minutes to play.  Lehman battled back to tie the game at 69 before MCLA would end the game on a 9-2 spurt.

Chenevert converted a jumper to put MCLA ahead 71-69.  Following a pair of Lehman free throws that tied it, Scolpino drained her biggest shot of the night to MCLA ahead for good.  The Trailblazers would make their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

MCLA held a commanding 54-32 rebounding edge behind Tremblay and Beauchamp.

Lehman was led by Jennifer Navarro's 27 points.  Jasmin Castro-Lopez and Shalaya Nieves each finished with 13.
