Tremblay nets 25 points in MCLA loss to Union

Schenectady, NY- The MCLA Trailblazers trimmed a double digit second half deficit to a point in the final minute, but host Union College held off the Trailblazers, defeating them 74-69 in a hard fought non conference matchup this evening.  MCLA evens its record at 3-3 with the setback.

Union was led by Kate Thompson's monster double double effort of 32 points and 16 rebounds.  MCLA was led by senior Lucy Tremblay who scored a season high 25 points.  The guard is now just 15 points shy of 1,000 for her career.

Union scored the final six points of the opening half to hold a 39-29 lead at halftime.  After scoring the first two baskets of the second period, the Dutchwomen opened up a fourteen point margin.  The lead would reach fifteen points before MCLA would rally behind Tremblay.

The Trailblazers methodically began chipping away at the lead.  With Union clinging to a 60-53 lead, MCLA would get a Kaitlyn Chenevert bucket and a pair of Danielle Scolpino free throws to trim the lead to just three.  Union would answer with a three pointer from Kelsey McDonald, however Tremblay answered with one of her own to keep MCLA close.

After back and forth action and Union now holding a 67-63 lead with just two minutes left, Tremblay once again dialed in from deep to cut the deficit to just one.  Union answered on the other end with a Thompson basket, but MCLA had possession with a chance to tie.

MCLA misfired on their next two possessions giving Union a chance to extend out to 71-66.  A Danielle Beauchamp three pointer gave MCLA hope with 22 seconds left, but Union didn't allow another point while adding three free throws to hold on.

Thompson was 16-24 from the floor to notch her 32 points.  She was joined in double figures by Brittney Kenney who finished with 11 points.

Tremblay was 8-21 to account for her 25 points.  She led MCLA with a team high 7 rebounds.  Beauchamp collected four three pointers en route to her 16 points.  Chenevert added 13, while Scolpino finished with 11.

Union held a commanding 53-30 rebounding margin, but were forced into 24 turnovers on the night compared to just 11 for MCLA.

The Trailblazers will look to get back on track this Friday when they host St. Joseph (CT) at 7pm.
