Women's Basketball surrenders lead in loss to Daniel Webster 61-57

Nashua, NH- The MCLA Women's Basketball team surrendered a double digit second half lead as Daniel Webster rallied past the Trailblazers 61-57 this afternoon.  With the loss, MCLA falls to 1-3 on the season while Daniel Webster improves to 2-3.

After DWC held a 6-2 edge early on, MCLA took over.  The Trailblazers went on an 11-0 run to take a 13-6 lead.  MCLA would not trail the remainder of the half and eventually go into the locker room with a 30-21 lead on Danielle Scolpino's putback at the buzzer.

MCLA would maintain a comfortable lead and were up eleven points at 42-31 at the ten minute mark when Daniel Webster started their comeback.  They used a 14-3 run to tie the game at 45, however they couldn't regain the lead.

After some back and forth action and MCLA holding a slim 51-48 lead following an Ashley Clawson layup, Daniel Webster would score the next four points to finally retake the lead at 52-51 with under three to play.  Another Clawson layup gave MCLA a temporary edge, however the hosts would score the next six points and hold a 58-53 lead with just 38 seconds left.

The Trailblazers would cut it to three on Brayleigh Hanlon's drive to the basket, however DWC made three of four from the line to close out MCLA.

Clawson led MCLA with 16 points and 8 rebounds.  Kaitlyn Chenevert was the only other Trailblazer in double figures finishing with 10 points.  MCLA was doomed by a dismal 12-25 performance (48%) from the free throw line while committing 18 turnovers.

Daniel Webster was paced by Ashley England's 14 points.  Teammate Ashley Giampetruzzi finished with 11 points, while Kayla Free came off the bench to add 10.

MCLA will look to get back on track Tuesday when they travel to Becker College.
