Balanced attack leads MCLA past Fisher 80-70 in women's basketball

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Basketball team placed four players in double figures as they scored an 80-70 victory over Fisher College this evening in the Amsler Campus Center.  The Trailblazers finish the first semester with a mark of 3-6 while Fisher drops to 3-7 overall.

The point total represents a season high for MCLA as they were paced by Mariah Brown and Brayleigh Hanlon's 16 points each.  Ashley Clawson and Kaitlyn Chenevert were the other two in double figures finishing with 11.

The Trailblazers took a slim 40-38 lead in to the locker room and slowly began distancing themselves from the Falcons in the closing half.  After Fisher tied the score at 54, MCLA used a 14-5 run to snag a 68-59 lead with 4:36 remaining.  The Falcons would battle back and eventually get within three points at 72-69, however MCLA would outscore Fisher 8-1 over the final 2:22 to close them out.

MCLA dominated the glass, especially in the second half.  They finished the game with a 57-37 advantage, but held a 34-16 edge over the final twenty minutes.  Sara Hamilton played a big role in that for the Trailblazers as she corralled a season best 10 rebounds.

Brown was outstanding as she was 8-14 from the floor, but also added 7 rebounds and 6 assists, to go along with 3 steals.  Hanlon was 7-13 shooting and chipped in with 6 caroms.

MCLA was aided by a strong night at the free throw line converting on 17-20 attempts (85%).

Fisher was paced by Alexis Akridge's game high 23 points.  Javana Bernard finished with 19 points and Breanne Brown had 14.

The Trailblazers are off until December 30th when they travel to NYU.
