Turnovers plague MCLA in loss at NYU

Manhattan, NY- The MCLA Women's basketball team continued their 2013-14 season tonight as they traveled to New York City to battle with unbeaten NYU.  The Knights cruised past the Trailblazers 92-59 as they improved to 8-0 on the season.  MCLA drops to 3-7 overall.

The Trailblazers recorded the first bucket of the game, but it went downhill quickly.  After Kaitlyn Chenevert converted the opening basket, NYU rattled off the next 8 points and never looked back.  The quickly moved out to a double digit lead at 23-10, while their largest lead of the half was the halftime score following a three pointer at the buzzer. 

MCLA was doomed by 18 first half turnovers which lead to 19 points for the hosts.  NYU committed 13 turnovers, however the Trailblazers only turned them into three points.   MCLA shot just 30% compared to a solid 51% for the NYU Knights.

NYU opened the second half with a 24-7 run to grab a 70-30 lead and never looked back.

The Knights were paced by Megan Dawe's 21 points.  Lindsey Oldshue finished with 15 points, while Melissa Peng had 12.  Riley Wurtz compiled a double double of 10 points and 12 boards.  Peng added five assists for NYU.  The Knights finished the contest shooting 52% from the floor.

MCLA was led by Courtney Durivage and Michaela Siver who both finished with season highs of 13 and 12 points respectively.  The Trailblazers finished the game with 26 turnovers and shot just 34%.

The Trailblazers will return home on Saturday when they host Southern Vermont at 1pm.
