Offense struggles in MCLA women's loss to Fitchburg State

Fitchburg, MA- The Fitchburg State women's basketball team forced MCLA into 32 turnovers and opened the game on a 15-2 spurt as they cruised past the Trailblazers 73-43 this afternoon in MASCAC action.  The Falcons scored 37 points off of the Trailblazer turnovers.

The Falcon pressure defense not only turned over MCLA, they held their counterparts to just 22% shooting on the afternoon.  MCLA was just 13-59 from the floor while the Falcons were much more efficient, making 30 of 62 attempts (48%).

Fitchburg State moves to 5-4 in the conference and 12-9 overall to solidify their playoff positioning.  MCLA drops their tenth straight game in falling to 4-17, 0-9 in MASCAC play.

Amy Fahey led all scorers with a game best 20 points.  She was joined in double figures by Laura Cote who would finish with 12.

MCLA didn't have a player reach double figures as they were led by Kaitlyn Chenevert and Courtney McLaughlin, who each had 8 points.

The Falcons opened the game on a 15-2 run and never looked back.  Fahey and Cote combined for 11 points during the run.  MCLA would never get within ten points and when Fahey converted a layup in the final 30 seconds, the Falcons were up 38-18 at halftime.

In the second half, the Falcons opened on a 17-7 run to put away any thoughts of a Trailblazer comeback as they lead 55-25.  The lead would grow to as many as 37 late in the half as Fitchburg cruised home.

MCLA will be back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Framingham State.
