Visiting Union shuts down MCLA in Women's Basketball 59-34

North Adams, MA- The visiting Union College women's basketball team clamped down on MCLA from the start as they cruised past the Trailblazers 59-34 this afternoon in the Amsler Campus Center.  With the win, the Dutchwomen improve to 4-2 while MCLA drops to 4-5 heading into semester break.

Amy Fisher led Union with 17 points, including 15 in the decisive first half.  Union held the Trailblazers to just 21% shooting and only 11 field goals.

With the score at 8-6 with 15:00 remaining in favor of Union following a Trailblazer basket, the visitors took over by allowing just three points over the next 12:32.  MCLA could only muster three made free throws and went 0-15 from the floor with 8 turnovers during that fateful stretch.  Union would outscore MCLA 18-3 in that timeframe to take a 26-9 advantage. 

MCLA finally connected with 3:04 on the clock on a Kayla Hotaling bucket, however Union would score the final six points of the half to grab a commanding 35-13 halftime lead.  Union shot 50% in the opening half while holding the Trailblazers to just 17%.  Fisher finished the half with 15 points while going 5-5 from the floor.

Union would lead by as many as 32 points in the closing period as they cruised to the victory. 

Fisher was the only player in double figures for Union.  Cailin Schmeer finished with 9 points and 3 steals.  Union also held a commanding 47-29 edge off the boards, with Erin Lyons pulling down a team best 8. 

The Trailblazers were paced by Kayla Hotaling's game high 20 points and 9 rebounds.  Hotaling collected 14 points in the second half.  MCLA committed 18 turnovers in the contest.

MCLA is off until New Years Eve when they host Middlebury for a 1pm clash.
