MCLA's Summer Bissaillion and Trailblazers fell to Anna Maria 3-2

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Women's Hockey team opened their Eastern College Hockey Alliance conference schedule this evening with a 3-2 loss to the Anna Maria AMCATS at the Veterans Memorial Hockey Rink.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Thursday, November 9, 2023
  • Score: Anna Maria 2, MCLA 3
  • Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 2-2-1 (ECHA 2-0-0) | MCLA Trailblazers 2-3-0 (ECHA 0-1-0)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • MCLA found itself in an early hole as Anna Maria broke through for the game's first goal only 59 seconds into the contest when the AMCATS Jordyn Bleaney cleaned up a rebound that had escaped from the grasp of the Trailblazer's goalie Juliette Barney.
  • The 1-0 score would hold up through the remainder of the first period and into the second when MCLA responded with the program's first short-handed goal. The AMCATS' Abigail Vigliotte attempted to change directions behind her own goal, but the puck got stuck on the base of the net and was left behind for the Trailblazers' Rebekah Ade to pick up and stuff home before the goalie, Megan Tegethoff, or the defender could react to the loose puck with just over four minutes expired in the period.
  • The tie was short-lived, however, with Anna Maria's Chloe Becher scoring about a minute and a half later, aided by Tessa Henry and the AMCATS would hold that lead through the remainder of the period.
  • With just under four minutes off the clock in the third period, the AMCATS would score what would end up being a worthwhile insurance goal off the stick of Shayla MacDonald, assisted by Bleaney.
  • Alexandrea Bednar provided MCLA with some hope just over eight minutes into the final period when she put home a puck that had trickled through the AMCATS goalie after a shot from Ade. Ade had fired off a point-blank shot from directly in front of the goalie, who slowed the shot's momentum but didn't stop it, and Bednar made her pay the price.
  • The Trailblazers continued to pressure the AMCAT goalie, including in the closing minute with an empty net at their backs and the clock ticking away. Bednar got off two shots in the span of a few seconds but saw the first turned away by Tegethoff, and the second blocked by a defender as time expired.
  • Barney ended the game with 43 saves on 46 shots but saw her record drop to 1-2-0 for the season. Tegethoff made 22 saves on 24 shots and recorded her first collegiate victory.
