Women’s Hockey Can’t Hold On, Drop Decision to Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. – A 6o save effort from first-year netminder Kaia Borski wasn't enough for the MCLA Women's Ice Hockey team as Worcester State scored five unanswered goals combined between the second and third period in a 6-3 MCLA loss.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Worcester was the first on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead just over a minute into the contest when Cassidhe Wozniak scored with assists going to Amy MacGlashing and Grace Laubenstein.
  • MCLA pulled even with a power play goal by Katie Pica at 11:24 of the first period.
  • With about 90 seconds left in the first period, Brigh Cote put the Trailblazers in front with her first goal of the season. The assist went to Pica.
  • Alexandrea Bednar doubled the Trailblazers' lead when she scored the team's second power-play goal. Natasha Lozowchuk provided the assist on this goal.
  • From this point, things would go downhill for MCLA, as the Lancers responded with five straight goals in the final 28 minutes and 56 seconds. The goals were credited to Katie Puumala (assisted by Cailey Ryan and Fiona Hatton), Wozniak (Jennarae Bateman and Ellen Cook), Grace Laubenstein (unassisted), Kiersten Erickson (Olivia Fehl and Madelyn Franta) and Bateman (Cook).
  • MCLA's Kaia Borski recorded 60 saves but dropped her record to 0-2-0. Worcester State's Kelsey Czerniawski stopped 14 of 17 shots and improved to 4-3-1 for the season.
