HARRISVILLE, R.I. – For the third time in as many games, an MCLA Women's Hockey team netminder made 60 saves but still walked away without a win. This time, junior Juliette Barney stopped 60 of the 62 shots faced but saw Nichols record a 2-1 victory.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Tuesday, November 21, 2023
  • Score: MCLA 1, Nichols College 2
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 2-7-0 (ECHA 0-4-0) | Nichols Bison 4-3-0 (CCC 1-3-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Nichols was the first one to put a point up on the scoreboard with just over three minutes left in the first period. Victoria Khou fired off a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that hit MCLA goalie Juliette Barney and rebounded to Anneliese Klein, who knocked it out of mid-air into the goal for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Trailblazers responded just over two minutes into the second period. With a man advantage following a Nichols interference penalty on Morgan Rochefort, Abby Pomajba tipped in a puck from in front of the net, accepting a feed from Alexandrea Bednar. Carlen Bertrand was also credited with an assist. The goal was the first of Pomajba's collegiate career, while the assists were the third and second of the season for Bednar and Bertrand, respectively.
  • The Bison would find what would be the game-winner in the third period. At the 4:28 mark, Grace Wiggett collected the rebound off her own backhanded shot, and as she skated through the crease, she was able to put the rebound in before Barney could put a mitt over the puck. Kayla Currin was credited with an assist on the goal.
