Women’s Hockey Topped by Rivier, 3-0

NASHUA, N.H. – The MCLA Women's Hockey team returned to conference play this evening when they traveled to Rivier University for an EHCA matchup at the Conway Arena. Katie O'Brien stopped 32 of the 35 shots on goal she faced, but the Raiders won by a score of 3 to 0 in the front half of the home-and-home series.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Rivier spread out their wealth in this game, scoring one goal in each period. The first-period goal was scored by Tia Picardi (at 6:01, assisted by Paige Anger). The second-period goal was credited to Molly Dukesherer (18:25, Anger). The third-period goal came while the Raiders had the man advantage by Brianna Rumptz (8:43, Briana Paxson and Mason Puumala).
  • First-year netminder Katie O'Brien finished the game with 32 saves but saw her record for the season drop to 1-5-0. Her counterpart, Rachel Symmes, stopped all 27 shots she faced and improved to 6-7-1.
  • One area in which the Trailblazers did finish with the advantage was in the face-off circle, where the visitors came away with 30 face-off wins, a .567 win percentage. Alexandrea Bednar led the way by winning 20 of the 29 face-offs taken, a .670 win percentage. Katie Pica came away with the win in seven of her 13 attempts.

UP NEXT:

On Saturday, MCLA will be back in action when they play host to the same Rivier team for an ECHA matchup with the Raiders at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink. The puck will drop at 5 p.m. This game will be Youth Hockey Night; all local youth hockey players are encouraged to wear their jerseys to the game. The game will be immediately followed by the Men's team taking on the Fitchburg State.
