NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Women's Hockey wrapped up their home-and-home series with ECHA foe Rivier University this evening at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink. Juliette Barney came within 75 seconds of her second shutout of the season as she stopped 49 of the 50 shots on goal she faced, but the Raiders swept the two-game series with the 1-0 overtime win.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Saturday, January 27, 2024
  • Score: Rivier 1, MCLA 0
  • Records: Rivier Raiders 7-8-3 (ECHA 2-2-2) | MCLA Trailblazers 4-14-0 (ECHA 0-6-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Despite being short-handed with multiple players being game-time decisions on availability for the second night of their back-to-back games with Rivier, the Trailblazers held off the Raiders, who outshot them 45-22 in regulation and sent the game into overtime with both teams having clean sheets.
  • In the overtime, Rivier continued to hold the edge in shots on goal, but Juliette Barney was a stone wall in goal for the Trailblazers. The Raiders would score the game's lone goal when a shot by Caeli Reed was blocked by Alexandrea Bednar but rebounded directly back to Reed. Reed then got off a dribbler of a shot from just outside the crease that had eyes to find its way through Barney.
  • Despite stopping 49 of 50 shots, Barney saw her record fall to 3-7-0. Rivier's Rachel Hinkley pitched a shutout, stopping all 24 shots she faced, and improved to 2-1-1.
