NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Women's Ice Hockey team continued searching for their first ECHA win this evening when they hosted Worcester State at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink. For most of the night, the Trailblazers were fighting an uphill battle against the more experienced Lancers and fell by a score of 7-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Worcester State scored three goals in the opening period. The first goal came just past the period's midpoint and was scored by Katie Puumala (at 10:07, assisted by Cailey Ryan). About two and a half minutes later, the Lancers doubled their lead with a power play goal by Cassidhe Wozniak (12:45, Fiona Hatton and Ellen Cook). The third goal was credited to Abbey Millman (16:48, unassisted).
  • The visitors added two more goals in the second period. Wozniak (0:12, Puumala) added her second if the game shortly after the period's opening faceoff, while Rebekah Garbarino (8:28, Puumala) got a goal about eight minutes later.
  • Wozniak (17:45, Cailey Ryan) completed her hat trick in the closing minutes of the third period, and Caroline Gates (19:52, Madelyn Franta) capped the scoring with a goal with only 7.9 seconds left on the clock.
  • MCLA's Juliette Barney continued her run of high save totals, stopping 58 shots. This was the eighth straight game in which she has recorded 37 or more saves. Despite the valiant effort, her record still fell to 3-8-1. Conversely, Worcester's Kelsey Czerniawski got the win and improved her record to 5-11-0.

On Saturday, MCLA will be back in action when they travel to Worcester State for an ECHA rematch with the Lancers at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center. The puck will drop at 7:10 p.m.
