WORCESTER, Mass. – The MCLA Women's Ice Hockey team wrapped up their season series with Worcester State this evening at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center. The Trailblazers entered the game locked into the #4 seed in the ECHA playoffs but had an opportunity to play spoilers for the Lancers, who currently hold the top spot in the conference by a single point over Anna Maria and three points over Rivier. Becky Ade scored the lone goal for MCLA, but eight different players scored for the more experienced Worcester State team that went on to win 9-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Worcester State scored early in this game. The first goal came with just under two minutes played and was scored by Ellen Cook (at 1:48, assisted by Amy MacGlashing and Olivia Fehl). The second goal came just before the midpoint of the first period and was credited to Sydney Vautour (9:17, MacGlashing and Cook). Kiersten Erickson (14:20, Fiona Hatton, and Shelby Reaugh) added the third of the period, while Madelyn Franta (16:48, Layna Pereiro) finished the first-period scoring.
  • The Lancers started the scoring early again in the second period when Katie Puumala (0:07, Cailey Ryan, and Cassidhe Wozniak) lit the lamp and enticed the Trailblazers to change out their netminder. Cook (4:49, MacGlashing) extended the Worcester State lead with just under five minutes off the second-period clock. Wozniak (14:29, Fehl and Franta) capped the second-period scoring.
  • With just under five minutes expired in the third, Vautour (4:54, Cook) pushed the Lancers' lead to eight, while Hatton (9:05, Rebekah Garbarino) scored their last goal of the game.
  • MCLA scored their lone goal on the power play in the third period, with Becky Ade putting home a pass from Alexandrea Bednar with just under five minutes to play. The power-play goal for the Trailblazers was their first since December 1st at New England College.
  • It was not all doom and gloom for MCLA, who, for the first time this season, did not take a penalty. As a team, they have only allowed one power-play goal in their last five games, a span of 10 penalty-kill opportunities.
