Women’s Hockey Wrap First Season with Playoff Loss to Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. – The MCLA Women's Ice Hockey team's first season drew to a close this afternoon with a loss to the top-seeded Worcester State in the ECHA playoffs. Juliette Barney turned away 60 shots, but the Lancers had a pair of multi-goal scorers in the 6-0 Lancers victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Worcester State came away with a pair of goals in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. The first goal was credited to Cailey Ryan (at 13:26, assisted by Anya Laxton and Kiersten Erickson), and the second went to Katie Puumala (13:42, Caroline McIanson). The Lancers finished the first period with a 30-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Lancers added three more goals in the second period on shots from Amy MacGlashing (5:07, Ellen Cook and Sydney Vautour), Rebekah Garbarino (9:43, Layna Pereiro and Cassidhe Wozniak), and Ryan (18:14, McIanson and Fiona Hatton).
  • A single goal was scored by Worcester State in the final frame that was credited to MacGlashing (9:47, unassisted).
  • Juliette Barney finished with 60 saves for MCLA, marking the fourth time this season she has stopped at least 60 shots in a game. She finished the season with 14 games of 25 or more saves. In the first period alone, Barney held off 28 of the 30 shots faced, while the Trailblazers only managed to get 26 shots all game.
  • Kelsey Czerniawski got the win and improved her record to 8-11-0 after stopping all 26 shots faced for her fifth shutout of the year.
