Women's Lacrosse handles Johnson State 13-5 in home opener
North Adams, MA- The MCLA women's lacrosse team won their long awaited home debut defeating the Johnson State Badgers 13-5 on a cold, blustery day at Shewcraft field. Rebecca Pike led MCLA with 5 goals as they improve to 3-4 on the season. The Badgers drop to 2-4 overall.
In the opening half, the score was tied at 1-1 early on before MCLA would rattle off six straight goals to take command. Pike scored a pair of goals in the spurt as the Trailblazers cruised to a 7-2 halftime lead.
MCLA scored the first six goals of the closing half to stretch their lead to 13-2. Pike once again was a key component of the spurt as she began the run with a free position goal.
Johnson State was paced by Nichole Weeks' 4 goals. Samantha Jankowski stopped 12 shots for the Badgers.
Natalie Caney added a pair of goals and assists for MCLA. Kate Brown tallied three goals, while Mackenzie Cutler collected two of her own.
The offensive support made a winner out of Alexandra David who stopped 6 shots on the day.
MCLA will travel to Bridgewater State on Saturday as they resume MASCAC play.
