Women's Lacrosse downed at Bridgewater State 20-4

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-4 victory over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe MCLA on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field. 

The host Bears improve to 6-6 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC, while the visiting Trailblazers slip to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Twelve different players scored for Bridgewater State led by three goals apiece from junior attack Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.) and sophomore attackers Alex King (Weymouth, Mass.) and Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.). King and Renauld also added one assist each.

Senior attack Riley Cachelin (Westwood, Mass.) led all players with six points on a goal and five assists, while junior midfielderLauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with two goals, two assists, four ground balls and a season-high 12 draw controls. Sophomore attack Rachel McCormack (Plymouth, Mass.) chipped in with two goals and a helper.

The Bears held a 30-11 shot advantage for the game as well as a decided 21-5 edge in draws.

BSU junior netminder Chandler Ross (Wrentham, Mass.) made six saves to notch her second win of the season.

Senior Katharine Trahan (Burlington, Mass.), junior Amanda Liebetruth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), sophomore Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass.) and freshmen Brooke Buckner (Foxboro, Mass.), Gabby Reinold (Braintree, Mass.) and Haley Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) also scored for the Bears. The goals by Reinold and Riley marked the first of their respective careers.

Senior midfielder Rebecca Pike (Troy, N.Y.) and junior attack Kaitlyn Brown (Adams, Mass.) paced MCLA with two goals apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra David (Lowell, Mass.) turned aside four shots in the setback.

The Bears outscored the Trailblazers 10-0 over the first ten minutes of the game and never looked back.

The MASCAC schedule continues for both teams on Tuesday. The Bears entertain Westfield State University at 7:00 PM, while the Trailblazers host Worcester State University at 4:00 PM.
