Trailblazers Suffer Defeat to Lancers

The MCLA women's lacrosse team lost their second straight Tuesday at the Joe Zavattaro complex, as they fell 20-6 to the visiting Worcester State Lancers.

The Trailblazers (3-6, 0-4) got off to a quick start when attack Rebecca Pike scored off a Natalie Caney feed just 54 seconds into the game to give MCLA a 1-0 lead.

The lead was short-lived though as the Lancers scored six straight goals by five different players. Alaina Martin scored two in the spurt. Caney got one back for the Trailblazers as she scored an unassisted goal, beating Lancer goalie Lea Robichaud making it 6-2 with 16:59 left in the half.

The Lancers attack was just too strong though, the Lancers held possesion for the majority of the first half as they tallied fifteen first-half goals. Jackie Connors was instrumental for the Lancers as she scored four times in the first half.

Kate Brown and Caney closed out the first-half scoring for MCLA as they trailed 15-4 at the break. MCLA goalie Alexandra David made eight of her game-high ten saves in the first half.

The pace slowed in the second half as the Lancers held the ball in the offensive zone for long periods of time, despite the deliberate style; Worcester State did commit nine second-half turnovers.

The Trailblazers struggled to capitalize on the Lancer mistakes, but Mackenzie Cutler and Brown were able to score a goal each for MCLA.

The Lancers had twelve different players score goals as they outshot MCLA 38-12 for the game.

Alexis Vecchiarelli added three goals for Worcester State. Caney had two assists as well for MCLA.

Worcester State moves to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Worcester State will play Gordon next Thursday night at 7:00. MCLA will travel to Westfield State in search of their first conference Saturday at 1.
