Trailblazers Hold on Versus SVC in Elements

North Adams, MA – The MCLA Trailblazers snapped a three game losing street on Patriots Day by outlasting the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont by a score of 16-12. The game was played in brutal conditions as temperatures hovered in the low 40's with a heavy mist and wind gusts over 40mph at times.

The Trailblazers got off to a hot start jumping out 4-1 seven and a half minutes into the game. Four different players scored early as Rebecca Pike and Mackenzie Cutler both picked up an early goal and an assist.

The Mountaineers quickly responded following a timeout and scored three unanserwed goals tying the game at four. Emily Lesure's second goal of the game was sandwiched around a pair by Melodie Orrell.

The game would follow that pattern throughout as MCLA would surge ahead again, but could never quite pull away as the Mountaineers would respond.

MCLA went ahead 7-4 following the Southern Vermont run and would head into the break with a 10-7 lead.

Orrell would get the first goal of the second half cutting the lead to 10-8, but the Trailblazers would start to wear down the Mountaineers. Pike and Cutler would do the damage again, each getting a pair of goals as the Trailblazers started to open the game up at 14-8.

However, back came the Mountaineers as they would score three goals in a 1:26 and cut the lead in half to 14-11. Orrell added two more tallies and Taylor Brewer's goal cut the lead to three with 9:37 on the clock.

Southern Vermont would run out of gas down the stretch as MCLA played more of a possesion game. Kate Brown and Pike would add goals late as the Trailblazers won 16-12.

Orrell and Lesure had five goals apiece for Southern Vermont.

Pike had half of her team's sixteen goals and assisted on four others. Natalie Caney had two goals and four helpers as well for the victors.

Alexandra David had seven saves for MCLA earning the win.

Southern Vermont is back in action tomorrow at 4:00 PM when they host Johnson State and MCLA will play there final home game of the season on Wendesday versus Fitchburg State, also at 4:00 PM.
