Lacrosse defeated by Owls in MASCAC action 15-2

North Adams, MA- The Westfield State women's lacrosse team scored the final five goals of the first half and cruised for the remainder of the game handing the MCLA Trailblazers a 15-2 defeat in MASCAC action at Shewcraft Field.  With the win, the Owls remain unblemished in the conference at 5-0 and improve to 11-4 overall.  MCLA drops to 3-9 and 0-5 in the league.

In the opening half of play, the Owls scored the first three goals as three different players found the net.  Alexa Tonelli scored the game's first goal, while Sydney Lambert and Lucy Barrett would convert to give the Owls a 3-0 lead.  MCLA's Tanelle Ciempa would cut into that deficit when she would score off a nice spin move with 18:23 remaining to make it 3-1.

The two teams traded goals over the next two minutes making 4-2 before the Owls ran off five straight markers to end the half and seize control.  Once again the Owls depth paid dividends as the goals were all scored by different players.

In the half, the Owls owned a commanding 25-6 shot edge and held a 13-5 advantage in ground balls.  Seven different Owls recorded goals in the half.

The Owls would score the first five goals of the second half, two of them by Liz Navoni, to stretch the lead to 14-2 and they wouldn't be threatened from there.

Westfield didn't allow a goal over the final 43 minutes of play as they outscored MCLA 11-0 over that stretch.

Five Owls scored a pair of goals as Hunter Zackaricz, Sydney Lambert, Alexa Tonelli, Liz Navoni, and Samantha Lungarini led the balanced attack.  In all, ten different Owls found the net.  Westfield used a trio of keepers with Mimi Khampaeng earning the win in net.

Sundra Lam took the loss in net for MCLA stopping 12 shots on the afternoon.

MCLA is back in action on Wednesday when they play at Fitchburg State.
